This is not meant to be trolling or anything but ever since Kier's return to the site and the long message he post(While desired, it was vague) it seems like the atmosphere on the site is less than friendly vs what it was originally. I wonder has anyone noticed that it feels a bit different, less engaging as it did just a few weeks back.
I don't really spend much time reading posts that are talking about Kier's absence and/or the lawsuit because they always end up in flamewars and arguments. Other than those kind of threads, I can't say I've noticed any decrease in helpfulness from other members
It's not really the helpfulness that is the issue People's issues/problems are being dealt with, it's just the community just seems a bit less relaxed and more tense to me these days. I don't really use Xenforo's site much tbh and get help elsewhere but it was something I noticed today reading through various threads.
If you look closely, you'll find it's the same few people who are always negative and, in the same vein, you'll get another small core group who are at the other end of the spectrum and will never allow (or believe) anything that isn't positive. They clash... a lot. The rest of us just carry on, regardless
I tend only to go there to use search or check the Announcements and Resources forums. Many of the forums I visit on a daily basis contain what I'd describe as troll and popcorn content. I learned a long time ago to just ignore it and move on. I have noticed Brogan getting a little medieval on some members. Good for him, I'm sure they deserve it! I found the entire what's up with Kier thing akin to an alien conspiracy theory i.e. pure conjecture and somewhat embarrassing that grown men and women could act in such a fashion.
I don't subscri I don't subscribe to either of those 'clubs', I find it all rather pathetic if the truth be told. just like the whole Apple nonsense....
Its the same old story....when vBulletin first took off there was a short time where the support forums were just as friendly as could be. The entire user base pretty much knew everyone. Soon as more and more people flooded in from the infopop/ubb scene things got ugly just like they'd been over at the infopop support forums for years (which is exactly why so many people fled, well that and the lack of updates to ubb and the $250 a year renewal fees). Can't really fault the support forum itself for an influx of trolls, idiots, and just plain old bad attitudes. Sadly those users always seem to be the most vocal too....as the friendly ones quickly tire of having to deal with those users and just stop posting as much. Also, tbh I haven't visited the support forum in months as I've been super busy.
A lot has changed on the XF forum, and not just in the past few weeks. I had the distinct pleasure of being the first moderator, interacting with new members, interacting daily with Kier, Mike and Ashley, etc. Without getting too personal, it didn't take too awfully long for my bubble to burst. I stepped down from 'modship', soon after closed my forum and haven't had a forum for a bit over a year, altho I do still own 2 licenses. I still visit xf.com as I have friends there, same as here. But I'm not really interested in operating a forum, at least not now.
Be prepared for more "fun" as the end of the month draws closer (the expected [by some] release of 1.2).
LOL i am betting on a delay of some sort :d this is my first "major" release since owning a license but i would have thought if it is coming out in june supposedly there may have been some hype about it or something by their team
Hmm, let me see, end of Q2, then adding in the fact this is a Leap Year, divided by... Brad, are you watching this one? I think the people fretting over the timing of the next XenForo release need to be introduced to Linux. Debian Stable.
I make noobs dumpster dive for discarded 386s to compile the tarball xD. I have not kept up, been too busy with life as of late plus I had the pleasure of getting bit by a black widow multiple times in my sleep a few weeks back . Right now the only thing I am using a PC for is manually scraping the local public school systems math website. I would write a script but by the time I worked out the bugs I could have just done it all by hand anyway. I would be done already but my brother developed a diablo 3 addiction. Speaking of......he's been playing for about 16 hours straight atm time to go smack him and get him away from the gaming rig.
<offtopic>Oh god, Gentoo! Some day I will have to relate the tale of how one of my developers for a mission-critical, 99.9% uptime operation system made the choice to not only build the enterprise server app on a Gentoo core, but opted for having a build where the drivers are compiled with the kernel rather than modularized. That .1% performance boost wasn't really appreciated when a server's NIC decided to go south three years later and we had to get a tech on a plane and on-site same day to fix it because the damn thing needed a recompile to work with what was then commercially available in the way of NIC replacements.</offtopic> And yeah, blahblah peanut gallery atmosphere at XF. Almost enough to make me want to go watch real life politics instead on TV. Almost.
<LOL> What I was getting at is the long periods of time between updates to Debian Stable. If you make something work properly in the first place, then there is very little need to touch the core for long periods of time. Not too many of us would willingly run Debian Unstable on our daily-use machines, even though it is constantly getting updates. (Although I have tried to do just that a couple times. )
