The thing is, we knew development was happening every time a bug report was marked as fixed. Some people just jump to conclusions too quickly. Glad to see another release with some good fixes. Looking forward to 1.2 when it's ready :)

    Progress. Which is good.

I'm waiting to see how they handle mobile support so we'll see what 1.2 brings. :coffee:

1.1.3 is just a release to get people to renew their expired licences. frankly the lack of detail about development and now beta dates slipping is the more concerning thing. glad I got out of XF now. :)

It's a quite a lot more for me than that. The inbuilt cookie policy is great for European forums owners and there are a number of important bug fixes that were effecting my site. The patch also contains a timely fix for a security flaw so I'm very happy with this release and looking forward to the next.

Question. Since when is a company obligated to tell customers every little detail about development? And show me a single company where they meet every stated date for releases.

They aren't, but at the same time, its helpful to tell its customers about some developments at least. If it works for you great, but it isn't for many, the xenforo forums are more than proving that.

The whiners in the XF forums are spoiled brats who stamp their little feet and cry whenever they don't get their way.

Upgraded without a hitch. I especially like the smiley manager in 1.1.3 being totally overhauled , and given a facelift. The introduction of category's was a smart move and I have to admit one I waited for for so long. Unfortunately, I woke up and the dream I had ended.

That said, upgrade went without a hitch is true.

this is exactly the reason why I won't miss xf and some of its blinkered almost toxic fanboys.

secondly not everyone moaned I silently decided to move away from xf.

    Anyways good day to everyone.

I understand and agree with you completely but every software has it's fanboys.

The Android and Apple fan boys(i am a windows phone 7 fanboy) are WAYYYYYYYYY worse than anyone on the XF side :D

Last bastion of the eternally discontented: "You must be a fanboy if you aren't swimming in my pool of pessimism."

Allow me to provide some context in the wind-up here: I am a vocal critic of XenForo's PR strategy and I think they need professional help in that arena, badly. When you ostensibly are selling software to community managers and your community management sucks, it shows, and I think an actual community management strategy is something that is a high priority if they want to remain in business.

Anyway... I'm going to take a different tack with your message. Instead of even disputing your theory of what's going on, let me accept it. Okay, so the XF guys sat on a bunch of fixes until this week, Ashley (being the business-minded pointyhead in the operation) looked at the numbers and noticed that maybe there weren't a lot of recent renewals. So they release this stability patch, which lots of folks will then renew their licensing to obtain.

Here's my response to that: So freaking what.

This infantile mentality that businesses shouldn't be allowed to generate revenue is grating. So freaking what if they did this to generate revenue; revenue is what keeps a business, well, in business. Obviously I would personally prefer if they had a nice shiny new 1.2 ready for consumption, but they don't, so at least in this case they're fulfilling their contractual obligations to provide licensed customers with bug fixes and quality of life updates. Incoming revenues pay the bills and the employees and allows them to keep working on stuff. And hey, maybe if they weren't having to pay out the nose for legal counsel, they might even be turning a handsome profit at this point.

And if they were swimming in cash? So. Freaking. What.

I'm glad you found a company that's willing to adhere to your exacting standards of conduct, of course. Hopefully they can keep up the good work. I believe every forum owner should run on a platform that provides them what they think they have paid for, rather than some dream of what could potentially be, so if you've found "the one", then all the power to you for doing so. That's in fact how free markets are intended to work: people gravitate to the products and services that best meet their needs and wants at the price they're willing to afford.

This ridiculous notion that XF has some moral duty to not generate revenue, though, is frankly asinine. I'd obviously prefer they do it via being a market leader and innovating and I do believe they've gone off track in doing that (I'm also not privy to their triage list of concerns that may have bumped such things down the list in face of far more existential crises). As long as people are in fact willing to renew to pay for this quality of life patches, more power to them to generate that much-needed revenue through that means. At the very least, give them credit for having removed the "you pay double to renew if your licensing has lapsed" model they had originally put forward, which acted counter to their interests in having people stay on top of renewals without lapse, but gained them some good guy points with their customers.
