I haven't upgraded my testboard yet, but I wanted to comment...I've been conditioned to the point where I was expecting this a few days after 1.1 was released to fix a bunch of bugs but every day I would log on and was surprised t wasn't announced. Thank you IPS...I'm now a Pavlov dog. lol But in all seriousness, it's nice to see some bug fixes! I think I have just found a major one in the IPB importer...I'm waiting to gather some data on it but for us, it's a huge huge huge bug sadly...
Upgraded to 1.1.1 another flawless 0 template walk in the park. I'm going to check out the notices today and see how this pans out. The stacked system will solve one of my issues using multiple notices in the same location. Hopefully.
That's awesome but they are using sprites now on forum list page for node icons... I think it will be hard to make it for custom node icons.
Your able to use individual node icons your not restricted to just using the spritesheet. Just log into your Admincp and goto Appearance >> Style Properties >> Node Icons and the options are there to use individual icons or have them linked off the spritesheet.
Stop stealing my lines. But mike makes a good point not the if he can, anyone can do it but spritesheet management isn't as daunting as people might think. Once I get the the time I'll try and get a how to a kind of help guide written up.
Well thanks for help but I already know node icon options in admincp. CSS Sprites is pretty good the latest version but I have a question then... So, if we are using our custom node icons, after it could be bad for Google Search Engine Optimization? Probably you know when visiting a website, speed is a very important factor not only for users but crawlers as well. (so from a server load, traffic optimization point this is awesome.) But custom node icons... There is only one icon. Of course we'll use custom node icons however I'm just asking this... Thanks
Shelley, when it comes to graphics, I am clueless. When I say you can write all I know about graphics on the head of a pin with a dull crayon, it's the truth. I wish I had 1/10th your knowledge. Maybe I'm missing the crux of your question, but I don't see trading out node icons as having any negative impact. Actually, I look at things like node icons as being necessary evils I need to make available for my users. Because they are just one more bit of code between the search engine spiders and my keyword-rich content.
The impact would be minimal. Also, Google focuses mainly on content, and recommends that people do the same (Supporting link below). http://www.readwriteweb.com/enterprise/2011/12/googles-matt-cutts-good-conten.php Only the video is important tbh.
I am in the process of removing the icons replacing them with css read/unread. I don't see or never have seen a useful purpose for them other than loading more graphics.
Because that will not work for all sites, and a spritesheet is only loaded once for all graphics on it. Node icons are useful, but your average design doesn't utilize them well (Some of mine included). The icons can be used to link back to the brand, can be used to give a symbol that links to that specific forums content (With the use of opacity) or any number of things. Most people just use orbs (I'm guilty too ) or the speech bubble, or other cliches.
My updating xenForo from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1 marks the first time since I started running my forum in 2004 that I completed an update without having to re-add any add-ons or tweaks. All I had to do was revert three files from the style I bought.
