What do you do when a staff member betrays your trust? The only other admin on one of my sites has just yesterday, spammed my members with an email to join his other site... What would you do in this situation? I've sent him a PM and removed him from admin, I don't know what to do now, as the damage he may have done is done, It's not like an email is something I can undo. All I've done for now is posted an announcement and emailed apologies to users..
I think you've done all you can do really. I would consider banning him as a spammer - it would depend on his reasoning for sending the email.
he really did help at the beginning, and I offered all staff an advertising spot on the sidebar, but nothing like a full sitewide email. Crazy. The only reason I didn't ban him is because of that initial help which he gave in the first place. If it werent for Alan asking me what that site was, I'd never have known. I've checked the email logs and he's done it once before, on like, the second day of the sites opening. I feel let down. Wont be allowing email function to anyone again for a while :/
Fool me once..... you know the saying. He's done this twice - once, by your reckoning within a day of opening. That's not someone you can trust.
Yeah, I know the saying, however, the first time, no-one reported it, and he didn't include admins in the email so I didn't get it. :/
It gets worse each time you post. He's purposely missed you off on the first one - since in vB you have to manually select to send to specific groups if you don't want everyone to get it. I call for a ban!
Ban him, abusing his powers like that is a disgrace especially with you trusting him. I would also ban his IP and on any other sites hes on that you own.
I'd ban him, then delete him, then recreate his account, then ban him again, then delete him again, just for the hell of it :banghead: He purposely went behind your back (and actively tried to make sure you didn't find out about it) to spam your members (and in turn destroy your forums, and your, reputation). No excuse for that really.
Unfortunately I can say this person just so happens to be my co-admin :/ I apologise for his actions, heads will roll.
Get shut I'd say. If he's done it once, he could try and do it again. He simply can't be trusted anymore. Once the trust is gone, your only really left with one option. Banned or demoted back to a normal member.
Thanks everyone for the good feedback, I've left him demoted now, I'm still considering banning him. He did reply to my Personal Message where I told him why he was demoted, his excuse was that he was drunk.. :/
Absolute crap. I once got arsey with a member here posting in sales when I was drunk. The next day I apologised to the AdX team and sent an apologetic PM to the member. I never spammed the entire membership though. Delete his sorry ass and move on
I've had a similar experience where out of the blue, the head admin locked me out of my own forum and held the database to ransom. The membership was given the option of electing him the new owner or losing the forum data. I won, he lost and more by luck than judgement I managed to retrieve the forum intact. I banned him and his IP and you should do the same.
Drunk? ha. I might accept that excuse once, but not both times. I agree with the others. This is outright betrayal of your trust and his position.
