A lot of people are curious about how to get members on sites that are just starting out, so I thought I'd make a topic for people to post there tips and tricks on how to get more members. Just post below.
Talk to your self, probably the best thing that any admin can do to encourage discussion in the early days, 3 or 4 accounts all discussing interesting subjects of which may get some real responses, Researching like wise forums as to what discussions are popular and then creating high quality stuff to compensate for that interest. The only thing that many people do wrong is stopping those accounts to early, they get 5 - 20 members online every day and think that the world will start ticking . Sometimes it does but if you continue to use those fake members for a longer period of time until you have a regular posters generating regular daily quality posts its likely things will pan out better. On one of my forums which is 6 years old , last year i told my oldest members what accounts were fake and why i done it , They all laughed and couldnt believe it was all me that they were talking for months back in the early days. ( they also said i should be banned for multiple accounts lol ) We had alot of fun with it too once they knew because i let them resurrect one of the accounts to wind up one of our long term members ( whos now a mod too ). Basically, If you go down that route i would hightly recommend you keep it to your self no matter how hard it is and you want to tell some people , try not to until you are more than established. Try not to be tempted to buy forum posters , they are obvious and generally low quality , they do nothing but add to your post count and give the wrong impression. Post exchanges will like minded admins can "sometimes" be good providing 1. they are not in the same niche 2. they have the same idea of quality as you do.
I don't know... I think too many conversations with myself would result in either a mental breakdown or paranoia.
