I just had a quick peek, and it doesn't look as though any but one forum has been reviewed. Maybe not such a great ideas to tuck them away. At least when they were forum threads people took the time to have a look. Just my $0.02
That's one of the downsides to using IP.Content. It moves everything off the forums. When you have a site like this one, where the forum is pretty much the center of activity, I prefer to keep activity centered on the forum. I always had good luck doing reviews and tutorials with GARS, on my old vBulletin sites. GARS wasn't nearly as powerful as IP.Content, but it kept everything within the forums. If only the world were perfect, right?
We're not using IP.Content for it. It's a custom app made by Alan It's easily rectified anyway, we can add a forum link on the homepage if necessary. But it's still early days and we're still very much in the process of getting the review system advertised.
Is it possible for the reviews to be added to the new posts/content pages in the same way as a new thread would be? Also, are there any requirements for doing reviews? Also, what advertising are you doing for it, or are you just stalling for time?
Yes, it's possible to display new reviews in the VNC. Should probably do that. No, there are no requirements to do a review. Just remember that if it's not a quality, thought-out review, then we'll remove it. Reviews are subject to the forum rules, etc. etc. As far as advertising... more like "promoting" it's use, not actually "advertising."
I was being an AzHole. I meant that, you said you're "in the process of" but does that mean "we're still thinking about it" or does it mean "we're actually doing something". As for promoting it, well, what promotion are you planning? Forgive me, but I am unaware of if you have a review team or not. If not, then what are you promoting other than a system where someone can list their site and they *might* get a review from *someone* if they're *lucky*. You dig? Not having a go, just interested in why something which can form a really useful service has been sidelined.
It hasn't been sidelined at all - it's currently very much in beta - which was why we asked our members to give it a whirl, ask for reviews, post reviews, hit the system, find bugs, make suggestions on how it can be better. Once we're sure everything works as it should and there's nothing important missing then we're going to go all out and start looking to develop a review team and full-blown promotion I was kinda hoping our members would have played around with it and given more feedback than they have to be honest.
BTW, I don't mind anyone, you know, reviewing me. Plz. http://adminextra.com/index.php?app=crs&module=crs§ion=view&community=off-topic-hut
I think this is the point, Mikey. People who post their forums in the review section are all of the same "I don't mind you reviewing me" mindset. I just think that if it was a standard forum section people would be more likely to do reviews than this out of the way thingy they have going on.
Hmmm, and did you think that moving it would make the situation any better? (assume no malice in my questioning) I mean, what benefits over the old system does the new system bring?
I don't see there being a "situation" to be honest. I didn't like the forum format for reviews and wanted to offer something different. I also don't think a few weeks is any reasonable amount of time to judge whether something is a good idea or not - not when it hasn't been promoted other than a quick post on the forums asking members to trial it and a tweet of that post - on the day we took it live. Overall, if the system starts to be used, I think it will be much better than using a bog-standard forum-based review area, since it'll show at a glance what areas people think are working and what areas aren't. We are looking into adding the ability for the OP to add comments in response to reviews also, which was one of the (few) suggestions we've received thus far. How about giving it a whirl and seeing what you think of it
