I've been wondering about this. Was chatting it up with a friend for some sites, and we were looking at sites that had all it's own content originally, so pure organic... versus sites/forums that have been acquiring other databases, stitching it on to their own, "growing" by x numbers of posts... does this have any kind of impact on SEO?

Does creating sites by stitching them together actually have all positive benefits, or are there any that are detrimental regarding SEO?

    :)

That depends very much on what you are stitching together and what you are converting them from and to. It can have both negative or positive effects depending how you go about it. Ive seen some forums do extremely well in after being merged a couple of times but at the same time those forums also very rarely become a "community", they remain just a forum where information is posted.
