Well, we all say that Admin Extra is quiet right? Well, why doesn't the staff run a massive contest that encourages forum activity? I say this because I'm doing it on my community Virtualpetlist.com launches a $100 posting contest and its going quite well.. Content is king, but you need to drive more content sometimes if things aren't so busy, right? What does everyone think about this idea?
You can't giveaway some free things? Its always nice sometimes. Lee Dodd has done it in the past too.
I'm not saying competitions or give-aways are a bad thing, I just don't like doing competitions that involve a short burst of crazy postpadding just to win - especially when the majority of the time the winner only stays around long enough to win the prize then disappears again. I much prefer competitions which benefit those members who are around because they want to be, not because they just want to win something.
Good point - have you ever ran a contest here yet though? A nice competition would be "Why is Facebook taking over the web", and whoever writes the most in-depth reason wins a prize.
We had a huge competition last year - IPB Licence, vB4 suite, styles, hosting packages all up for grabs.
You gonna front the money for all the licences? LOL Unfortunately AdminExtra is not a profit-making venture - we get a little income from supporting memberships, but we're not plastered with ads (out of choice) so we don't have a lot of money coming in.
Oh, I wish I could and I would. My community is sponsored by Aywas.com Why not contact the companies and see if they'll do it?
I agree I'd much rather see a competition that benefits members who have been around longer and have remained active even when no competition was going on. Not that I've looked in to this or to call anyone out on it, but are those who won the competitions last year still around or active as much? Clearly not as much if at all.
I'm around just not as often as I once was, I no longer have a community of my own being one of the main reasons but I still check in to keep up to date. I agree about not having a competition too, it's rare that the activity continues afterwards.
It was a mix of things, you scored points for different things - posts, replies, adding articles or downloadable resources. If you want to see a full description of what it was about - http://adminextra.co...ig-competition/
