Are there any topics you do not like seeing on your site - or would even go so far as to disallow the discussion of? If there are, what and why? (I'm in a curious mood!)
Pretty much just warez topics in genereal. In the rules I always state that warez discussion is disallowed and could be grounds for an infraction.
On the boards that I own, there is nothing that can't be discussed. Using warez as an example, I welcome discussions that explore the pros and cons but I categorically draw the line at links. What I don't like to see are discussions containing broad generalisations or seemingly innocent jokes that are actually designed to spread hate by stealth. To expand on that, a member might for example post a link to news item (usually in the Daily Mail) along with a broad generalisation e.g. a story about immigration will go hand in hand with a statement that all immigrants are bad and only here to plunder the country's resources. I will always jump on that kind of post and challenge it. I won't however delete it as I believe people are more likely to be enlightened by discussion rather than censorship.
Anything that break the rules Also if debates get to where they are pointless and no one is contributing to them but just rather disagreeing, then I will close'em up.
Warez, religion and politics. The first because the host doesnt allow it and I don't like it. The other two because I detest fights and these just go around and around and can ruin communitys by splitting them into groups.
Anything and everything is kosher for our site, including religion, sex, politics, etc. There's a strict rule set for debating the topics. Get out of hand and I dig out the chainsaw. Otherwise, have at it!
That made me smile. We allow free discussion of all topics provided the normal rules of respect for others are observed.
We don't allow politics or religion discussed, or anything to racy. We've removed the sarcastic eye-rolling smiley as well, too much negative energy gogo
