Just wondering if there is any merit to adding an XF styles sub-forum to go alongside the vB and IPB ones? I'm currently looking for a style for a new XF site I'm developing and I know there are some talented designers who are members here so wouldn't mind having somewhere I could browse their wares Just a suggestion ... Cheers, Shaun
I think we should but I'm not sure how many xf styles people will post thinking realistically. Even on the xenforo company forums there's not many free styles as quite a few of them are commercial so I doubt we will see many free styles released.
I think it was something we discussed once before and we came to the same conclusion. I am happy to add one, but I'm also not sure how busy it will be.
Even if it were to showcase commercial styles. I gladly pay for styles that I want to use, but finding a central location that points to all the various sites that have them is rare indeed.
I think me and probably a of of us stylists who display our work here would be delighted to be able to both promote our styles and pretty much "center" everything, specially if you'd allow us to promote our commercial styles etc. I wouldn't be able to chip in asap but I know I have some stuff planned.
Ah, I hadn't realised those forums were restricted to free styles only. I see now. I'd be inclined to allow commercial offerings from active participants though - especially as most committed and serious site owners (your members here) are willing to pay for good skins and would be grateful for you allowing the skinners to display their wares. Better still, why not make the skins forums into sub-forums of the respective platforms - you already have main front-page forums for each of the main commercial forum packages, so sub-forums in each for add-ons and skins would be quite useful I would have thought? It's so easy to forget you don't actually own the forum and get carried away with suggestions so I'll leave it here for now as I've offered enough "advice" ... lol Cheers, Shaun
Myself and az had a brief chat and I think it will go ahead with members (styling providers) allowed to post their commercial styles, setup in a way that they can show case but link to any payment method/management to their own forum where they'll handle the financial side and of course their own file distribution. Azhria will need to confirm this though when she is online again and think we will see the xf style area added soon.
I think that's all anyone would really ask for. I don't expect the boss to handle everything. But it sure would be nice to have a central location that everyone can come to and display their wares, commercial or free. And even nicer for the users to come and browse.
I'll give Azhria a nudge tomorrow and remind her that the xf styles area is needing added. I'm quite sure we have to add a notice in that area so we're wanting to style that before adding it.
It's on my list of things to do this weekend. If it was just a case of simply adding the forum, I'd have done it sooner, but we have to ensure permissions are correct, set up prefixes for free/purchaseware, add a notice so people know what they can post in there.. etc etc etc. Not something I want to do with kids underfoot
XenForo Styles area now up - http://adminextra.com/forums/styles.61/. I've also added a "Free" and "For Sale" prefixes to all the Style forums.
cooool. Speaking of permissions, I can't even view my own attachment in my facebook style thread. Admin Extra - Error You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.
