Do you ever get staff members who post replies on closed topics just to get their own word in? What do you think about this sort of thing?

I expect staff to only post when they need to say something like an update on the situation. I'm not a fan of doing it publicly as some members see this as a bad thing.

Can't say that I have.. at least not tat I can remember anyway.

I would generally consider this to be unacceptable behavior unless it was done for a reason such as Bandit said, updating or something.

To get the last word is a definite no-no in my eyes. I've accidently posted in a closed thread, mind you :giggle: so it probably looked like I was getting the last word. Posting to update something on the other hand, I can't see a problem with :giggle:

I would argue the admin / owner ect closing the issue by making a final post is bit different than simply posting after the fact.

I'm sure a lot of had to do this.

    I don't believe I said that, though.

My bad I missed the accidentally part.

And I've done that too. And that's when members get angry.:giggle:

If a staff member as deemed it fit to close a thread. then it should remain that closed without additional responses made to it by another staff member in the way of getting the last word in.

I would see this causing long term situations between staff and members who are in this specific situation where the other person (normally the member) will feel that they have to somehow respond to that post the staff member made which could cause long term effects for the worse on the forum.

If the thread is closed and is responded to to make updates then that is a different matter. ;)

    Depends on the context.

If it's closed with no clarification, then another staff member may come in and provide that. Also counts if they are re-clarifying something.

If it's just to get their own 2 cents in... then that's a no-no.

Ok, I have a silly story about it, but its darn frustrating. Here goes...and I'm prepared to get laughs...

There are only 3 Administrators at that level. We all have the same perms, I granted them everything that I have.

On occasion, the other two will post on a Closed thread just by being oblivious. Meaning that don't check to see the CLOSED thread icon or the BUTTON. I have Quick Reply enabled, so that can also make it less noticeable. The CLOSED button is not that distinct either.

My approach to this was to start adding a CLOSED smily or saying it explicitly in the last post. Alas, it still gets missed...

So then I sent an email informing to say, hey heads up on threads that are CLOSED. Ones that you post on for user issues are surely fair game, however, ones that are not related to such context or you don't have anything actually to contribute, then stay out of it.

One person complied completely as to just be more aware. The other person, whom is more notorious (and seriously his nickname is Dorie from Finding Nemo), responds with....
Ok...so I do love the guy and I don't want to be a true ass, but here are the options I'm considering and invite input:

    1. Change the CLOSED button to be more noticeable and clear.

    2. Remove QR altogether. Can't be done on usergroup basis, right?

    3. Change him to another UG to remove the privilege.

    4. Add some code somehow that will automatically include a standard line or graphic that appears in the last post when it is Closed. Kind of like how the Double Post prevention works in a way.

I think a popup when you try to reply would be a good idea. Have it say "This Message has been closed, do you really want to reply to it?" and maybe closed messages automatically have quick-reply taken from them.
