Tough, tricky question. Off hand, I couldn't allow or even put up anything like that in my forum, we have a huge number of germans (they invented our game/bread and butter) and this'd just be opening up a can of worms. And I guess this is my take on the concept of an "offensive" avatar for my forum. If I have a member off hand who'm I'm thinking would be offended, and if their claim seemed "sensisble" to me (gotta love those words of right sounding sweepingness huh) then it probably wouldn't go up. Strangely enough, our gaming forum is so, so strict for images, concepts, posts, (dunno how it got this way :O) but it's the way my community likes it, so I've been pulled along... lol, we don't even allow eye rolling gogo
Also Barry, it didn't bother me at all I found it funny... the 14 year old kid member was the one that complained and I didn't want to violate any COPPA law or anything like that, but if I could change it, I would have approached it differently
Offensive on one site, would be accepted with open arms on another. It all depends on the membership and genre of the site. I've been known to ask individuals to change avatars when they're unacceptable or just plain annoying. I don't mind animated avatars, but when they start to annoy and make it difficult to read a thread, then it gets changed. This is why I limit signatures as well. When the signature becomes larger than the post itself, it has to go. Huge images in the signature? Not gonna happen.
I await the day where somebody informs me a dragon ate their parents and they find my avatar traumatizing.
