NDS (Netware Directory Services) works in the same fashion, which makes sense for the most part (I assume Active Directory works similarly). However......

In a forum environment, this presents an issue. You can't treat a forum like you would "containers" on a network. In XenForo, there should be just a yes or no. But there isn't. There's yes, no, and in your freakin' dreams. HUH? Either you have access or you don't. Why are there three options when setting permissions? If there were just yes and no, I'd be happy. I could set up the user groups in the manner I've always set them up and I'd KNOW that my permissions were tight.

But nooooooooooooooooooo! XF has to make it difficult and force you into a situation where if you explicitly block a specific forum (using the "in your freakin' dream" setting), you're screwed as it affects every other usergroup. That's wrong. Permission settings should affect just the one usergroup. Not all of them.

    Okay. :(
I had this similar problem when I first installed xenForo, but in one of the updates, I think this was fixed by expansion into usergroup basis. Just go to the node, and fix your permissions for that usergroup.

Carlos are you sure you are on the team with KMA? LOL I mean really, when everyone else was responding to the thread we disagreed but it almost seems like YOU have a special place on the KMA team and are taking offense to anything I said.

Take a step back, re-evaluate yourself and come back and realize I have every right to speak my opinion of software that I spent my money on. If i like it, I can praise it and if I hate it or have issues with it, I have the right to state why.

I still haven't really noticed much difference in speed in my opinion with IPB or XF. i just haven't. I have used IPB about a year or so ago as a member of a forum and i found it to be really slow and all that but now with my now on board, it feels fine. It lacks that Xenforo touch with it but not in a way that feels bad. It's hard to explain but the speed is not an issue.

Maybe once i become a big board owner like a lot of people who have been at this since the turn of the century, I'll see some slow down then but the speed really is not an issue.

And trust me, if it was...my member's would have complained about it and have no issues doing so. I even sent out PMs and Emails telling people that if there is any issues that we could always go back to Xenforo.

Should KMA see this and they feel the need to ban me then that is fine. I am not going to their site and bashing the software there. I am not that kind of person by any means. I wouldn't go to someoen's home and criticize them as that is their domain. But in an open discussion about XF elsewhere i have the right to do so.

XF is a good product in my opinion.

I'd choose it over Mybb and SMf and I am a HUGE SMF Fan.

if there was no IPb and it was just Xenforo and Vbulletin, i'd choose xenforo.

it's a good software but i feel like I am paying for an unfinished product that is waiting for someone to patch in it's missing areas to make it complete and trust me, I am a member of enough admin forums to know that there are plenty of other people who are not switching to xf brcause there are thigns it has now that they don't like or things they need that they can't lose.

There are many people converting from VB to XF and a smaller portion from IPB to XF....however there are a good amount of people leaving XF for other softwares that you deem crappy.

Carlos are you having or did you have a problem with XF one time or another? The way you were speaking above, i thought it was aperfect fit for you with no difficulties and a seamless experience.

I almost forgot to add( I am on my tablet)

I wasn't calling KMA regualr joes. I said with their Vbulletin expertise I'd expect them to not make the same mistakes as some random people "I hate VB. LEt's make a Forum software." and yet they make amateurish mistakes. Even stuff about this lawsuit and the way they handle the rumors on their OWN site which is a public sales forum aka a place where prospective customers can see and read everything and probably the main way people get a feel for software.

So yes i stand by what i said about KMA above because these are supposed to be reputable men and have the reputation to prove it and I don't expect to see professional and veteran developers and businessman making such errors as they have.

I am not sure why I wouldn't have to wait when upgrading XF? Either way i'd need to take the forum offline to make sure everything is seamless.
Besides, I have to wait. Haven't checked XF in a few days(i'll log on now) but i haven't seen any news to update to anything so as an Xf customer,
I am waiting to upgraded or at least news on upgrading.

I'm just waiting until the end of June to see if anything comes out of the XF camp. My current forum will stay with IPB but there is another forum and a smaller forum that is using xF now and if it is nothing substantial coming from XF, I shall be selling my license.

I figure a licence with 6 months left is good for 50-60 bucks but i'm waiting until the end of the month as Q2 ends to see if SoME news comes.

This is the exact reason I've just left Xenforo and moved over to IPB.

I know IPB's track record, they tell me where they are going, XF is new, was a good software to kick off things but now I'm not sure when or if they are going anywhere and not even sure what they are producing even if they get there.

See, this is the attitude you have. This is why I am treating you like you're a joke. You're used to trolling, so you respond like this.

Just because I have a few minor problems with xenForo doesn't mean I don't like it. It has its own quirks, and all softwares do. No one software is perfect. Not even vBulletin. And I used to evangelize vBulletin. I used to be obsessed with vBulletin so much that I took pride in moderating, or administrating a vBulletin forum, especially one that is considered a "big board." Yes, I have moderated a big board before.
Let's take a look at what you said. Okay?
You said they're not regular joes, okay. I got that, but then your contradiction starts at "So it is disheartening as well as a bit off that I see them making such novice mistakes." Why? Because you're saying that they don't know what they're doing. You're saying that they're bound to make mistakes. First of all, all entrepreneurs make mistakes, whether they're regular joes, or experienced entrepreneurs, or experienced developers. For example, I have 10 years worth of moderating, and administrating experience, and 7 years of ownership of sites, blogs, and forums - I am bound to make mistakes. And I have made some mistakes.

As much as you make it sound like a PR mistake on the part of xenForo, you could not be far from the truth. Wanna know why? This "PR nighmare" has it's own advantages, and disadvantages. The advantage is that Internet Brands is making xenForo look good. Not just by filing a lawsuit, but their overall practices. I had never known about xenForo until I read a post at vBulletin's own forums. I saw the thread and researched who are the developers - I see "Kier," "Mike" and "Ashley," then I registered to the site, and once it was released as beta, I jumped in without being detered by this lawsuits. It happens.

It's not xenForo's fault that they got this lawsuit. In fact, the way the lawsuit documents is read... KMA followed a timeline of when to launch xenForo. It sounds like they were tiptoe'ing the lines of their contracts. Yet, Internet Brands still filed a lawsuit without basis for a lawsuit.

Yes, the disadvantage is that the lawsuit is going to drive some customers away, but from what I see on the xenForo community forums - I think this lawsuit more or less backfired on the face of Internet Brands. They're getting more and more new customers it seems. So, this lawsuit is more or less attracting customers to xenForo. The only thing driving them off is the long wait of new updates, new company communications, and so on.
But businessmen have made mistakes. Look around a bit harder and you will find that Internet Brands did more mistakes than xenForo ever has. It's on this site, too. Go look. IB is treating their customers like they're parasites. IB is tellling their customers "#@^& you!" IB is banning people because they don't know how to respond to customer dis-satisfaction.
You don't have to wait a second more with upgrading with xenForo. It only takes a few seconds to actually upgrade it. Ask around, man! ASK AROUND. They will tell you first hand, that the upgrade speed is second to none. In fact, it eliminates these "15 steps" for installation process. These 15 steps are taken behind the hood.

    I'm not talking about this....
I'm talking about the actual xenForo installation and upgrading process. The technology is that fast.
Hey, if you want to lose money, and lose traffic. By all means, do so. A lot of owners transferred from another software, to xenForo and all have reported a rise of visits, posts, registrations, and whatnot.

You know what? Do what you want. But if I see you saying "I should've upgraded to xenForo when everyone else told me to" I will just say "I told you so." Search CODForums, and look at my stats and we're talking about Call of Duty with a market capilization of 20 million owners, and 775 million dollars on first week of sales. And this is on a stock XF installation, everything is vanilla. I made a few adjustments since moving to xenforo - PSN, XBL, steam profile fields, and I recently added Tapatalk.

If I had a really nice skin to go with the XF installation, my stats would be twice the traffic stats I posted at xenForo forums. In fact, it would quadruple.
If news does come, and you're not transferring. I'll just laugh again.
LOL. Real funny! [/ends sarcasm] I never said I have a special place in KMA's team. I'm just saying you don't really have all the answers. I'll admit I don't have every answer by the back of my head, but at least I do my research, and I form my own opinion without being deterred by someone else's opinions. If they don't like xenForo. That's fine, and that's their loss.
I don't need to do whatever you say here. I have been nice to people, and the only thing I don't like is when people act like they're big. Here, you do it...

Your site is small, and that's why you're not experiencing speed problems with IPB. But I have seen a small IPB site run really slow, especially on the AdminCP side of things.
I'm sorry you don't see it because the speed issue is what drove me away from IPB. But hey, form your own ideas of how fast a software is, and how good it is. At some point, you'll find out the hard way. I'm glad I found out early.
That's now how it sounds, though. It sounds like you've been fed some BS, and you went with that popular idea.
Okay! Fine... but talking about someone behind their back will just backfire. It's like accidentally slipping and falling on a hot pan and being burnt at a later time.
It doesn't sound like it coming from you, and you're not converting. That sounds like you don't like it much. Again, your loss.
That's ten times worse, because SMF is a security nighmare. I have been part of a SMF forum, and I have also administrated one. It's hard to manage a SMF forum than a paid one due to the enormous amount of spam it gets. Same can be said for PHPBB. The security is okay with PHPBB, but there are a lot of limitations with that software. As all free software do.
Maybe it's a "unfinished" product - because vBulletin and IPB are mature. But we're not looking for a mature software. We're looking for something new, something re-freshing. We're looking for performance, stability, and speed to name a few.
Their loss. They want to go back to vBulletin? They lose because like vBulletin, they will have to pay more for their server maintence, because it's that server intensive. IPB's page load time drove me away from using it alltogether.

But you seem to ignore all of these and think IPB is faster than xenForo. Hey, it's not my server, it's not my software, it's not my forum. It's yours, and it's going to be on you.

I'm really surprised others are having a tough time with the permission system in xf. I thought it was the most straight forward, easiest, and quickest permission system to set up. All you have to do is set the main category and all the forums under it will have the same permissions. Say you have 1 forum under the category that you don't want guests to see, you just go to that node, click permissions (note, this is all off memory and I haven't done this since I converted MONTHS ago), go to guests, set NO for all. Done. From what I remember with IPB is...you have to literally set every.single.freakin.forum.you.create and for a site like mine, where I have hundreds of forums, that gets quite cumbersome and sometimes you forget to tick mark one setting so you'll get complaints and then you have to go in, look at the other forums to see the settings again, then go to the one people are complaining about and set the setting to what you had in the other forum. Like I said, cumbersome.

Maybe I just got lucky and figured it out right away...but the permissions system has been a godsend for us. It makes creating new forums much quicker and easier. If you have people set to multiple user groups, only then is when the setting for NEVER comes into play...and even then I really can't think of a situation you would actually use it. Maybe you have a group where if they reach so many infraction points, you put them on a "baby sitting" group that can't access all your forums, but then they go and buy a paid membership...you don't want them trolling and flaming people in a certain forum, say Politics, so you set that baby sitting group to NEVER and you won't have that problem as long as one of their secondaries are set to baby sitting.

As for your speed of the forums Forever Young, I'd wait until you start getting a lot more traffic and a lot more activity on the site. I hated going on my site when I was on IPB because I want my pages to load instantly and when I was going to my site, I'd have to sit and wait for it to load. Then on certain pages of the site, the loading would take 2-4x as long as the forum index page. So I became rather sick of the waiting game. Could I have bought a second server and it help the problem? Yeah, probably....but when I moved to xenforo, I was able to avert that cost, saving me hundreds of dollars a month.

While IPB may be good for your site as a small board, be prepared to do some major hardware upgrades if you get big because heavy duty servers (at least 2) are the only way a big board can be run on IPB from my experience. You may get an IPB staff/ex-staff in here saying otherwise, but they know the software better than you and I can ever understand it so they can probably make tons of changes to ward off such upgrades, but in my experience, you'll need 2 powerful servers to run IPB. Right now I have 1 pretty good server running xf without a problem (for the site I converted from ipb of course):
    Intel Dual 5504 (8 cores at 2.0ghz)
    24gb ram
    4x 300gb 15k sas w/ raid 10
    5TB, 100mbps port

Would you condone your behavior on your site if one of your members was conducting themselves in this fashion? Man...I can't even read passed the first few sentences because you are degrading and belittling him for having a different opinion than yourself. There's many different factors that play into why he has chosen to go that route and that's his problem/issue/decision, not ours. I'm sure he'll do fine on IPB3.3 especially since they finally heard our outcry about how crappy their SEO was which took them 1-2 years to catch on. But if he's confident and happy with the IPB staff that takes that long to listen to their members, that's all on him. He seems to think they are quite perfect, as did I when I first converted. Things will likely change for him. He'll start noticing their condescending behavior. He'll start feeling ignored. Then he'll be apart of an uprising there, in which they may or may not censor like they had in the past. Then he'll look for other alternatives to IPB.

In due time...but not the way you are going at him. Just by you defending xf the way you are is going to push people from actually using the product...IMO of course.

EDIT: I see Forever Young agreeing with you. How cute is that? You know what? Side with him. I don't care. Go. This is the same $#!^ I get at xenForo and I didn't even have that kind of attitude. You know what? #@^& it. I'm done here.
    I echo this sentiment.
The same can be said for a large vBulletin 4 board, so I can sympathize.

When I bought CODForums, the site was at 2,000+ members and a few thousand posts, yet vB4 dragged the server down so hard it made page loads nearly impossible.

Carlos, i am not trolling. I'd never troll this site. It is a pleasure to use. If anything, I am simply mocking you as you are me. Why is it so hard that I simply could just be a weird oddball who likes IPB and thinks it is fine the way it is :) Why can I not be someone who simply disagrees with how you evangelize Xenforo? Because that is what I am. Not a troll.

I never said that KMA can not make mistakes. If they didn't make mistakes they wouldn't be human. I said they are making mistakes that I would not expect men of their expertise(Ashley is a man right?, forgive my ignorance if not).

The way you are spinning the PR sounds like you are flailing to find a point to try and use against me. Yes perhaps the IB lawsuit against Xenforo probably brought some initial interest and attention to XF and caused people to move on over but now in June 2012, I don't think the lawsuit is working for them in a positive light. In my opinion....the way they have handled things the past couple of months plus the lawsuit is working against them.

hence why threads like this pop up on sites like this and even the many threads between people on XF. I haven't seen any threads as of late really so perhaps things are turning around.

So let me clarify since you seemed to not get it. They are entitled to mistakes and anyone who says they aren't, is wrong. I just think men of their expertise should not be making mistakes that they are or have made because those are mistakes you'd expect from novice. You may take it as criticizing or being disrespectful but if anything I'm saying they are greater than some of the actions and choices they made.

You can spout all your years of experience to me and how old you are. That is all fine and dandy and you can condescend me and say how dumb I am being an inexperienced teen admin. If that helps you feel better about yourself to use personal attacks go for it. But I don't want to go down to that level and I want to have some class while disagreeing.

Because unless you are simply that amazing, I am pretty sure that just like me you were inexperienced and learning day in and day out and Unlike me and this current generation I don't think there were as many communities 10 years ago to learn from. I could be wrong. I don't really care :)

But i stand by everythign that I currently said and I do not take anything back.

    To reiterate earlier posts.

My top 3 softwares i will use forever and ever until something else catches my eye
    1. SMF-Free
    2. IPB
    3. Xenforo

I run a forum with each software now.
People try to tell me SMF is crap and I shoud go to mybb because it is the best. Okay the best for them. I don't like mybb and I find SMF miles better. But apparently i am in the minority.

I do like Xenforo but I find IPB to be better at this point and time...and apparently I am in the minority :)
no problem at all with that.

as of NOW i have very few complaints with the software with IPB and it does feel more complete and worth my money vs Xenforo(which feels like it is ALMOST THERE)

Thank you for your response. I appreciate that :)

But you say that is if you expect me to come back to the XF side :p(And if i turn out to be wrong about IPB i will give Carlos and others the satisfaction of saying how wrong i was singing praises for IPB LOL)

I don't really get that SEO thing. Can someone explain to me the issue or complaint. Again I am nowhere near experience as the res of you and i am probably far younger than you all(Not even 18) so what is SEO exactly, why should i care and what exactly is it that IPB did or is doign wrong that XF does better?

as far as the staff, I submitted a ticket recently about an issue and it took 2 hours to get a reply :p
and I just submitted a thread asking questions in the forum and the community is reasonbly fast with responding.

Carlos if you look at your responses to me and mine to you...you'll see

Person A(You) making personal attacks to Person B(me) based on Age and my lack of experience in comparison to yours of 10 years plus and just all around personal attacks vs my simply disagreeing with you and stating the reasons for my choice in purchases.

please remember....any money that I have given to either XF or ipb is My money and not yours. So i do find it a bit strange that you seem to be this bothered by my disagreeing with you over IPB and XF.

Furthermore, if you feel wronged here by me and others when nobody has wronged you and you believe you get the same treatment on XF site(Kudoos to you using their software still even when people there seem to wrong you as you stated in the above quote) perhaps you should take a moment of self-reflection and see if there is something YOU may be doing wrong<3

    Just a friendly suggestion :p

Edit: i agreed with them simply because while we seem to disagree they were still respectful with their response :)

Ahh... I see, you admit to being a troll! Mocking people is trolling. That's the way I see it. If people want to side with you and agree with you. Fine by me.
*Gasp* And you say you're not trolling. Words can't describe how shocked I am to hear you say "Ashley is a man, right?" I know guys who are named Ashley. And yes, it's a man. His avatar proves it.
I'm telling you that it's working in their favor. Go look at the xenForo forums, you'll find a lot of IPB owners converting. RIGHT now.
That's funny, I could say the same for you, and you're talking garbage about people you don't even know. I mean, Ashley is a man? Yeah, it's supposed to be a woman's name, but you don't say that in public anywhere.

Oh, you're classy now, eh? :roflmao: Ooh okay. :roflmao:
There were a LOT of communities. Learning is fine, just as long as you take suggestions. Ignoring them will just be one of those "Shot to the foot" mistakes.
Continue to go down that path and lose. I'm sorry, I meant what I said above. Shot to the foot.

Sometimes, it's better to follow the trends, there's a reason why SMF is not really popular next to MyBB.
Continue mocking. Go ahead, calling yourself classy, right? Go ahead. I don't expect you to be on XF's side.
SEO is important to any new website. ANY. It does not matter how experienced you are. SEO is important to the growth of your site. Otherwise you fall behind other established websites, which is one of the reasons why your book forum is dying off. I can help you get even with your competition, but you already screwed that up. I can give you tips, and your site will take off. Listen to me, and I will make you money more than you ever imagined. I'm about to receive my first Google check in the next 2 months because I'm that damn good. I'm smart, but people take me for granted and don't listen. Their loss.

I can take any business to success. ANY day of the week. My CODForums stats will speak volumes. My MW3Blog stats will speak even louder.
I don't need to see anything....
I didn't attack you because of your experience, or age. Those are irrelevant. It's all about attitude. You're rubbing me the wrong way from your tone, and attitude. I just proved to you a few times how this was done.
Keep that attitude up, I will rebel even more. Keep it up. I'm a nice guy by nature, and everyone knows that, but won't admit it. I will treat you nice, if you treat me nicely first.
See, even I see this as sarcastic. I don't need your suggestions! It's not an innocent, or friendly suggestion. You're just trying to be a jerk.

I do want to add I am sorry if I offended anyone by asking was Ashley a man. I believe i have seen his avatar once on XF but tbh i have no idea what Kier or mike look like and i was guessing it was a 3 man team and i was also adding an apology in case Ashley was not a man.

did want to add that much!

I have self control, if you refuse to see that he's got this tone, or attitude. And you continue to call me a troll because it seems that way, then you and AzzidReign are just biased as I said. So many people think the wrong things about me, that it makes it easy for people to think it's okay to hate me.

I should've been banned since you said yourself that I trolled this person. That's what you said, that was your opinion. Or was it? The fact that he said that I'm a troll, makes you say so, and on top of that, you take his lead by going back to the older posts but you chose to ignore his earlier posts where his attitude stinks...

    Go ahead, ban me.
See, look at this. You call this an innocent post?
