XF 1.1.2 was released on 7th February - eight weeks ago - that is why people are naffed off with threads like "Are we dead?" - Really? Just eight weeks after the last update?

It's basically two guys trying to manage the coding, court case, customer service, sales, support, etc. so it is going to take a little longer than it might do otherwise. It's also good practice to keep a lid on new feature announcements until they are a "sure thing" in terms of the coding development and the point release at which they will be included in the download package.

I have high expectations - based on what I've seen so far - and I think that's all people are really wanting over on the XF community, for others to have a little patience.

IPB aren't really an ideal model either; their frantic update release schedule over the past 18 months lead to some very buggy code getting out through the door and lots of breaks to site styling and patches/fixes required (and if you've ever updated a large IPB Suite with all the additional products you'll understand how stressful it can be to finally complete the upload and reworking of everything, to have IPB announce a last-point update 10 days later!!).

Do I want to know what's coming? Sure, of course I do, I'm a forum addict and love to get new features out there for my members to enjoy - but I also like them to work well and I'm prepared to sit back and wait for the news, whenever it may be ready.

    Cheers,
    Shaun :D

You must not have come from vBulletin then; the staff is known to call their own customers a lot worse then just whining idiots.

Nope :) I have no experience with Vbulletin(hate visiting forums that use it and i hate the admin side) But that is bad on both sides if they allow that for paying customers.

Thanks Shaun, I understand your viewpoint and given that I am new to the world of forum software(7 months experience, so i am still learning) I don't know a whole lot about lack of development or slow development. I think i try to see it from the "Whining idiots" POV simply because this a premium software and while there are two guys working on everything and that is stressful enough, I can understand how the paranoia runs rampant. These people are enticed by XF but lawsuits and this and that make people wary about the future of XF. The rumors, while insane, occur more often because nobody is really saying anything. Again this is a premium software....not a freware like SMF or phpbb3 or mybb, where they volunteer their time. This is a business and a lot of their customers are feeling jaded.

If the customers are feeling jaded, it's because of a self inflated sense of entitlement.

I agree and disagree...I think people are expecting too much at one time. No XF may not be completely up to par when it comes to styles, core features, and add-ons for their software but it is an excellent start and as said above, 1.1.2 was just released 2 months ago so it is still fairly new and current so they should chill out a bit....Just because it is now 2nd quarter doesn't instantly mean that we should automatically expect another major release this soon.

However at the same time, there are crucial thing that XF does lack that is very important to a great many people as well as from what i read online, developers are hesitant at spending time creating potentially awesome mods because they are unsure of the direction of 1.2

.I am not sure of the current status of the lawsuit as tbh, I have more importantt stuff to worry about than the legal affairs of others but if it is still ongoing and hasn't been wrapped up, some of these people do have legit concern when they are worried about the future of the software and company.

Unlike most of those "Whining idiots"(A term that i read from some well-known person on XF official site) and unlike most of the fanboys, I do try to see it from both perspectives of groups as well as understand it from the developer's side. Personally, i also feel for Mike becauase tbh people are basically are not giving him enough credit demanding to know where Kier is. It is much more complex than people having a "self inflated send of entitlement."

It really DOES boil down to a self inflated sense of entitlement.

Does Microsoft give a heads up weeks in advance before they release an update? Does Oracle? Norton? Please name me a major software company that would take the bullshit that the forum development companies do. I could just imagine Microsoft's response if a bunch of cry babies started whining about how they haven't heard from the lead developer and what will the next update contain. I imagine their response would be very similar to mine. Go get a life and leave us alone. And that's exactly what many need to do. Get a life and leave Mike and Kier alone.

You can't really compare a company that has been around for decades, has proven themselves and has a foreseeable future to an up and coming site with an awesome but slightly rocky start that has been around for 2 years.

Xenforo and Microsoft are two different levels of extreme there. I know plenty of companies that do just that. Let's take the world of Phone software and Android/GOogle. Google or more specifically various manufacturers who create android phones due announce features and hardware weeks and sometimes many months in advance.

It builds hype, it allows their customer base a chance to get a better idea of things coming in the future and it gives Developer's the opportunity to know what to spend their time on and let them see if it is worth or not to invest time and money.

Every other day you hear about Apple is suing this android manufacturer or that manufacturer for something stupid(Similar to IB with xenforo). In fact a better comparison would be Apple iphone(Vbulletin) vs Samsung Galaxy Line of phones(A supposed copycat of Apple iphones). Apple is always suing them for stupid things and yet Samsung never fails to let their fanbase know what is going on. No matter the legal issues or whatever, Samsung has shown and reassured their customer base time and time again. Because at the end of the day no matter how annoying these whining idiots are, they are the ones who bring or can take success from Xenforo.

So yes there are companies around that do the very same thing that you just said Microsoft and as a strange extension, Xenforo, dont do. I haven't kept up with Xenforo's official site just because if I see stuff like this going on there, it will piss me off but I do hope that

    A) People just take a leap of faith and hope for the best and await 1.2
B ) New Features/new Updates come out soon to Quell the whining idiots
    or
    C) if A or B can't happen, i do hope that those seeking answers about Xenforo can officially have all concerns put aside and squashed by the person they seem to be the most concerned with...Kier.

More and more companies are now being subjected to such criticism due to the evolution of the internet. These companies you speak of may or may not listen to their customers...I really don't know since I don't hang out in those circles. The circles I do hang out in, due to my site, is video games. There's been major turns in development over the past few years, thanks to Twitter and Facebook, where game devs are now getting demands from their customers or from a community they've created for their games.

I'm honestly getting sick of all the hostile bs in this thread. I can only imagine how some of you run your forums...

Plus, it's simply not true. I don't know about Google and Oracle because I don't use their products and don't care, but I use Microsoft's Visual Studio and there are a lot of head ups in their blog and I'm quite sure there are similar ones for their other products.

But comparing a company with 3-4 employees with a company with several 1000 employees is quite useless. Nobody wants head ups every day and nobody has asked for that. The news before 1.1 were quite interesting and AFAIK the feedback given by the crowd helped them to tune and improve their current development.

I actually found Kier's post quite sad to read. No salary, no end in sight to the lawsuits and personal issues that may or may not be related to those suits. I know what it's like to have the spectre of a costly, long term litigation hanging over you and it's not at all pleasant. I admire his dedication to the cause.

and no one cares about those issues ! All of them are busy showing off how they wasted their hard earned money on the product just cause Kier was away !

Common no one has forced them to buy the product .

I am glad he is back and hope this puts his absence means he is quitting rumors to rest...though the message does cause slight concern due the court case, which is crazy.

I've been iffy about Xenforo these past few weeks. Liking it but always something about it made me feel...meh but over the past few days I have explored it more and I think i am for the most part won over and I really hope they can make it past this HUGE hurdle.

I hate for this to be one of those kinds of things where it has such great potential(and it does) but unfortunately never had a chance to really go far enough to do so.(the Webos of the forum software if you will.)

I could not agree more. But it will no doubt not be enough for all of the twits who continued to poke at everything, demanding hard and fast answers. There are always going to be those people who have to poke, prod and bitch about anything and everything.

I agree, it's good to see Kier feels up to moving forward, but what a shame he had to get sidelined by Life. And what a bigger shame people could not display a modicum of faith, while Kier was dealing with whatever was demanding his time.

Now we can get back to the same-old same-old, like one, unnamed individual trying to convince everyone I am actually Azhria Lilu. o_O

    I wholeheartedly agree.

If a mobile solution isn't available by this months' end, or at the very least next month. I will install Tapatalk.
Yes, but xenForo is a start-up company. It only has 3 or 4 employees, like you said here...
The problem that you're not understanding is that the pattern with announcements from xenForo is unpredictable. What everyone is saying in this thread, is that xenForo needs to stop teasing members for months at a time, because it will come off as "trolling" for attention.

AzzidReign will know who I am talking about and what the situation is: Robert Bowling is a community manager at Infinity Ward. With Modern Warfare 3, he teased people about upcoming releases such as Spec Ops, for TWO long weeks. Not to be outdone, he does it again at CODXP, he said there wouldn't be Last Stand; and so, as Azzid and I know that was bull$#!^ because Last Stand was just renamed to "Final Stand." Idiot.

God knows he'll do 10 times worse with Human Element.

Considering Tapatalk takes all of 5 minutes to register the site and then FTP the files, there's no reason you haven't done so already.
