Well I am importing a site for a prospective buyer. She wants the site on xen. Looks like the 3.2 importer still needs work.

Get memory errors at various intervals on post import.

    Code:
[24-Nov-2011 04:43:52] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 318857 bytes) in C:\inetpub\new.justbs.us\library\XenForo\Importer\Abstract.php on line 170

I have php memory limit at 1024M so there is no way I should be limited to 128M unless there is some limit set up in the importer itself.

I'm going to try it one more time on another server to see if it works although the 2 servers are virtually identical.

Ask on XenForo about it, maybe they have an answer what might be going wrong you've overlooked. Also, you said you have memory set as 1024M

Not sure, but isn't that wrong. Shouldn't it be set something like 128M, 256M or 512M.

1024 usually equates to 1MB (in KB)

I would also open that Abstract.php file and look to see if maybe there is limit set. But still I would head over to XenForo and ask Mike, he'll tell you right away your problem.

Tried on another server. Errors at the exact same spot, 18.80%.

The buyers going to have to live with IPB. It served me well.

Mike is debugging this. Got to say response to my post was almost instant.

I have to say, Mike is on the ball. He's a very helpful guy if he can help out! He was the same with me over the CHMOD problem I had.

Know you're getting help from support but, I'm wondering: Is this a shared host or a dedicated server you're importing on?

Imports are very server intensive processes, and eat up a ton of memory. Let us know how this turns out, I'm interested in hearing about it.

    It's on 2 dedicated servers.

Turns out a thread with a long reply was gobbling up memory. The importer sets memory limits so my changes on the server were over ridden by the scripts. Mike fixed it and import is continuing now at 45%.

I have to say support was superb. Mike answered my question in a matter of minutes and in a hour the problem was fixed. Once a few addons that I need are created I could see myself switching a couple more of my communities.

Yea Xenforo guys are quick to respond, I actually have mike on my buddy list on AIM although I rarely bother him, just send him a message around the holidays wishing him Merry Christmas and what-not.

Good to hear you've gotten this resolved. This is a good example of why you never "give up" on using an importer/script, thanks to you many other people in the future will be able to avoid this problem.

I remember back in the vBulletin days I had some issues with their import scripts when I did some custom jobs for people and it was a similar issue with the scripts using too much memory. Was fixed in no time thanks to Jerry always begin around to modify the scripts when issues like this popped up.

Sorry to hear you had the problem, Bob. I converted one of my sites this morning and everything was slick as a whistle.

Looks good, Bob! I hope the feedback is positive from your members about the change :) Yours is the second site today that I've seen convert over.

Thought you tried it the other week on a site, then converted it back to IPB saying you didn't like XenForo?

I did. The only real reason I converted Just BS is because the person I was going to sell to wanted it converted so I packaged my license in the counter offer. That forced me into getting in the admin and learning things. The more I played the more I liked it.

Now that I have converted the buyer backed out, woman's prerogative, so I decided since I am starting to get used to things, permissions and nodes aside, to look into buying a couple more licenses for other sites.

Heres a thread by Jake Bunce that should help with learning about permissions:

    http://xenforo.com/community/threads/understanding-permissions.5830/

For nodes, they're rather simple, and you'll pick them up quickly once you're use to them. There really isn't much difference than adding forums in vBulletin, you just have different types (That can't be changed to another type).

Good to see you got everything handled, Bob. I mentioned to Azhria that I was finding things different in XenForo. Different, but in a good way. I remember the Admin CP was a challenge when I started using IPB, but after the first day, things were making more sense. And it seems to be the same with XenForo.

What I'm really liking is my members are being extremely positive about the change.

I hit a snag with the IPB 301 Redirect .htaccess rules and I was amazed at how Mike jumped all over it. He and I were exchanging messages on the ticketing system, one right after another. He made a couple changes to a couple of rules and had everything working as expected, within a few minutes. I was very impressed at that level of service.

Yeah, I got that error too. Had to add a line to the htaccess to allow more memory allowance.

Azzid, the problem I was having were those rules were killing .png images on my site. It was driving me insane (ask Azhria) and Mike fixed it in two shakes.

Mikey, messages were flitting back and forth so quickly, I don't think either of us really noticed. ;)

I have since converted one other site to xenforo. http://windows2008forum.com is now running on xen.

That's it for now. Long range plan is to convert http://computerhelpforums.net. Before that I have to decide which forums get sold and which I just close. I will have 3 sites when all is done.
