Hey folks, Have you ever been accused of being a spammer as a forum owner? If so, how did you treat such an accusation? Was the accuser a close friend or someone you didn't know? What sort of "facts" did they bring to the table to finger you as a spammer? What do you all think?
Nope, never. But then I rarely advertise my sites on other people's - whether they're in the same niche or not - other than in my sig
I'm with Lisa, I always err on the side of caution. Other than a signature link (where acceptable), I leave site promotion at the door.
Yup. I NEVER advertise my site in another forum. If asked, I'll provide details privately, but I feel it's just bad form to go to another site and advertise your own site. Those that come to my site and their very first post points to their forum or site are treated as a spammer.
I personally find it that when users spam their sites it makes it look childish, which is something I tend to avoid. I usually permanently ban anyone who joins specifically to advertise their site, especially if it is the same niche.
