Has anyone given this funky little thing a try yet? Basically, it works as a plug in for a small number of different community types - vB4 vB3.8 Vanilla Vanilla v2 phpbb3 Wordpress You install it (at least in vB 3.8 anyway) as a product and upload two files to a forum/insights directory and it tracks (in real time) quite a few interesting stats. Now I know you're all gonna ask at this point what it can do that Google Analytics can't... well....I've had it running here for about 10 minutes so far and it's telling me my most frequent users who visit/who post/ most viewed threads, etc and other funky items actually specifically related to the site. I think it's rather interesting so far - if you give it a whirl let me know what you think Gravity Insights | Home
Didn't you post about this last week? You involved with them, advertising? .. not sure what to think of this post. Sorry.
This is the first time I've mentioned it - since I only just discovered it so, to be honest, I'm actually quite offended by that comment.
They emailed me in February asking if I wanted to beta test - is it worth it? For more than just looking at it once and saying, "Hmm, that's interesting."?
Maybe I am just skeptical, knowing they are a Conversation Engine, and they offer a free "collect your data, including your post content and meta data" while they have a Interests Community build on the popularity of this data. Why does someone want to submit their popular site content for review, so they know how to build theirs twice as big? It's them injecting a 'give me everything you run' to better their business content, while you think you're just getting nice statistics? Not saying they're Using your content, they do not seem to do that. But they're building a community with popular content based on the statistics we freely provide to them and allow them to use in any shape or form.
I'm sitting watching it at the minute - it updates in real time which is (currently) a novelty lol It actually gives a breakdown of new users, who's visited, what threads appear to be generating the most conversation... amongst other things... it's also free, which is always good
I'd give it a shot, I like doing beta stuff when it concerns forum software I use. It gives me a chance to decide how good it could benefit my community before others get that idea
Be skeptical by all means, but please don't assume that just because I've posted about it that I have some underhand reason for it - which is what you did.
Hm, I vividly remember posting of 'but they are in private beta now', they were actually still in my history. If you're not involved with them and it's not an advertisement, then I apologize. But to be honest, I felt offended as a user if it was actually the case, since it would mean to me the objectivity this site has wouldn't be so objective after all. Glad to hear I am wrong then! ---------- Post added at 06:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 PM ---------- I posted that second post before I read your reply. FYI. Not skeptical about you, but about the gravity company their intentions for this product.
Definitely wrong - I haven't posted about it - being in beta testing or otherwise. If it has been posted on here, then I missed the post or just don't remember it, but it definitely wasn't done by me as I've only just registered an account with them. I'm objective about everything I post and have no ulterior motives - just a sharing of information that I thought people would be interested in. Anyway.. apology accepted. No worries
I removed the post, Floris. You and Lisa settled it and I felt my opinion was not needed, so my apologies.
Memory glitch then. Perhaps another user. Glad to hear things are as I was hoping for. Again, sorry then.
This is what went through my head as well. I read it as patronizing. effiing hate those !!!!! thx for mentioning AL!
Well there's nothing in their TOS about taking content and using it - just about stats... I think it's rather funky personally
Hey All - This post just came onto my radar. I'm one of the Gravity guys involved in Gravity Insights. I hope you guys like the service. I wanted to briefly address some of the main concerns that I saw voiced. First, we have no association with adminextra whatsoever (though we'd be open to being a sponsor ). Second, your data is safe! It's only used to provide the service to you. We are planning on building some additional tools that will enable admins to display trending topics, the latest threads, thread recommendations, and some of the other more interesting data back to your end-users. More on this to come. Third, our goals as a company is to provide tools and services that help all communities flourish -- by making them more functional and sticky and by providing new monetization opportunities to community operators. We're doing that through Gravity Insights (our community analytics service), and Gravity.com, which today is just a destination site now, but will soon be a service that can be integrated into any website. That's it! Gravity Insights is still evolving rapidly and we love getting input from admins about what they like and don't like. If you have any questions or feedback about Gravity Insights, please feel free to email me at insights@gravity.com! Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to come over and post I think I can speak for both Shelley and I when I say we sign into Gravity Insights at least once a day - it's usually up there as my third page when I first come online - open Admin Extra, open phpmyadmin to run a backup and then open Gravity Insights to see what's been happening I really like the way its laid out, how you can see from the dashboard at a glance a breakdown of what's happening in real time before getting into the nitty gritty. I'm really looking forward to seeing it evolve - especially the additions you're talking about. I find I spend more time in Gravity Insights than I do in Google Analytics LOL As for becoming a sponsor of Admin Extra, we're definitely open to discussion
