    I need some advice.

    I received this email:

I contacted them on their live chat available on the home page to ask about it. They said that it had been auto-renewed and that I needed to pay the invoice to avid additional charges and the involvement of a debt collection agency.

    Here is the chat log:

I never bothered to use the domain or hosting beyond the first week. They got a full year out of me and have now sprung this auto-renew on me. I'm at a loss what to do.

The money is no biggie. I just feel like they're taking liberties with me.

If there is no way out of it, at least you should all be aware to avoid One.com Web hosting-Domain • Hosting • E-mail

I think it's a bit naughty to automatically renew something 35 days before renewal date, that's for certain.

All sounds a bit dodgy to me.

For that amount of money, I'd like to see them try to send a debt collector round, it would cost them a lot more money for them to do that :stomp:

    I'll get the bill.

It's in the terms and conditions, apparently. http://www.one.com/en_US/terms-and-conditions

See, the minute the guy asked if I'd cancelled it, I'd have said yes.

Even so it could be argued that 35 days before renewal despite the TOS is very unfair.

How exactly did you agree to those terms? Was it a read and click "I accept" or automatic acceptance?

I think you could probably win a case against them because those terms don't seem entirely legal. Mind you I'm not in the UK so I'm judging by my own legal perceptions.

You could try to ring them and escalate it up to a manager. They must have a phone number listed somewhere.

other than that it seems to me you only have 2 other options...

    1. Pay it and then cancel it.

    2. Contact a lawyer.

And everyone here now knows to avoid one.com like the plague.

The best thing to do is say we will settle it in court, most of the time people like this will drop it.

1 Ropemaker Street is a serviced office building. If you can't find a phone number for one.com try ringing 0800 085 5050. That number is for the office agent, they may have a number and may give it to you.
