How do you go about getting your first Moderator when starting out? I havent made anyone a mod in over a year now and with this being a new forum I aint too sure how to go about it, I was thinking an announcement asking for people to apply if theyre interested but I wouldnt want quite a few people apply only to turn them down and have one get the position, you all know what people are like when they want something and someone else gets it over them, sometimes they leave in a huff or think you dont like them etc. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
I wouldn't bother taking on staff until you need them and then look at your memberbase and pick out someone who shows the right signs that your site needs in a moderator
I dont need one desperately or anything but I would like for someone to be able to look after the forums when I aint online cleaning up any spam and of course other Moderator tasks. Should I wait until I really badly need one because I am able to get online and do the same tasks myself I just aint online as much as I have been in the past? I have one person in mind so far for it but I dont like asking people if they would like to be one and I was considering him for another staff position not the Mod one
Not really no I just like having people having different staff ranks I wanted him as a Reviewer to begin with and still do but he could make a good Moderator, he could do both but he is already keen on being a Reviewer.
What rank would I give him, that's my issue I wouldnt want him to have two ranks on top of each other in the user info section Sod it I am going to ask him and ask if he would like both or one over the other
Thats the thing for the Reviewer it was only the rank that was different so no groups so he will only need to be in the Moderator group I just dont know how to show he is a reviewer too without the doubling of the ranks.
I'll ask him to do that, not a bad idea I have asked him now so fingers crossed he is interested in at least one of them.
Thanks, more like nerve wrecking Nah it is exciting I just havent done this in a long time and I have had nothing but bad experiences in the past which puts me off but I just need to forget about all that.
It is always better to have someone trustworthy on site with delete posts power when we are not online.
I wouldn't suggest staff applications, those just make members realize they have a chance at staff, and when they don't get it, they rage, leave, or tell others that your site is "bad" (past experience). What I do is if I'm looking for staff, I will keep a close eye on all members, and see who is really doing a good job and helping the community for no reward and the sole purpose of being a good person. Try to pick someone that isn't immature, because that just makes your site look bad as a whole, especially if they get in to an argument with someone who is much smarter than them, and end up looking stupid.
I think actually having at least 1 other staff member is a good idea The reason is because with two staff, you both can focus on getting new content published and reply off one and other to get the discussions going Two topic starters is better than one However, finding someone who is willing to be as active as you are willing to be will be the REAL CHALLENGE here....
