We all know dot com is king and the most coveted, but... Would you do a domain name similar to like say deli.cio.us? Or lets say you were specializing in leggings and your website would be leggin.gs? Do you see value in something like that from a branding perspective? Just wondering.
if say named domain didnt lock up say .info or any others it will work in your favor in search engines say site was deli . com and you reg deli . info if someone just googles deli it will show all options hope this helps
I only got one of these types of domains for a URL shortening service I am developing for a site. I got iwx.me which I will use on my social network that is a lot like twitter. Other than that, I stay away and only get .com domain names and then .net and .org if I already have the .com and it is doing well, the net and org serve as redirects.
The only time I would get one of these, is so I can provide an easier way to get to my real site. They are nice, but I don't think I would like using them indefinitely.
The only domain I would consider is a .in - which could easily be say vacation.in/florida for example That is apart from a .co.uk Always surprised me that people in the US have not gone more for .us domains.
I got voiceradio.us for $3.99, though the extension was (and is) on sale at GoDaddy--not sure what the usual price is. I would've gotten the .com domain if I could, but neither it nor .net were available, and .us fit fine due to the community-based feel to the site, I guess. I may go for a good URL-shortening name (i.e. vcrd.io) in the future, but I don't think I'll go for the .com in the future if it's available since the current name has stuck.
Kurt if you do go for a shorter name, I have to say I don't know if I like that one tbh , maybe just have voicerad.io or something. But in my opinion I always go for the .com domains as they look more professional in my view.
