Seeing how my community now generates enough income to cover my hosting costs for 3 days, I sometimes pay the hosting costs a month in advance - that way, I don't have to worry about paying it that month. So, do you pay your hosting costs in advance? Or do you just pay it every month? Also, what does everyone think about paying hosting costs in advance?
I pay mine monthly - that way if any issues do crop up, I can shop around without being tied into a yearly contract.
I tend to pay for my hosting a year in advance then that way i don't need to find the money every month, my site makes zero income as i tend to like my sites ad-free you'll probably look at the site and say i do have adds, but they are part of a link exchange.
We've always paid it a year in advance. You can get some good deals this way. We're with MDD Hosting, and for a while last year, he was letting us buy credit at a percentage discount that we could use to buy products from MDD hosting like urls or upgrades. yarwh! gogo
When I have the money I usually only pay two months in advanced, but unlike Lisa up there, I don't think WiredTree will make a mistake or that something will come up lol, they are just to damn awesome.
Just to be clear I was more implying that paying a year or more in advance is bad. I don't see a problem with doing a few months at a time. Rev, what server / plan do you have with wiredtree? Also are you using light speed on your server?
I pay annually since I dont get to much money monthly, I just manage to pay annually so I guess it works for me.
I have the smallest choice from their vps plans, but I used a coupon to get 50% more hdd and ram. Also nope, no litespeed with me.
I do a lot of research in advance for my choice of Hoster. We've only had 3, and they all came highly recommended from my friends. Phonecalls to the last two "sealed" my feel for trusting the hoster, and the recommendations of my friends did the rest. I'm not worried about myself needing that money over the next year, so it really comes down to whether I can make use of a benefit of a great monetary discount by poyning up the money a year in advance. If personal finances are an issue and long term budgeting is a cautious issue, then I can understand monthly. As I am and have always been confident in my research, we have always come ahead with the value of paying up in advance. Course, there's always that tragic first time if the company goes bust or something? lol... I'm not too worried gogo
Nice deal. I think people really need to check out webhostingtalk.com There are often really really good deals there. Ya I doubt MDD is going anywhere.lol
I usually pay month, have paid yearly in the past but as others have said it's nice to be able to shop around if the host is having issues.
In a sense, everyone is paying 'in advance' right, even monthly... you pay at the start of your month, for the impending month? I'm just being bitty But yeah, I prefer a monthly plan too, as others have pointed out, what appears to be a good host in the beginning can turn sour six months down the line, either in terms of support, capacity or upgrades.
Well, until this week I've not had a forum on the go for a few years (aside from a tiny phpBB someone was kindly supporting for me), but previously I was with MediaTemple on a vps for many years. I've seen them get a bad rap lately so I don't know if something has changed because their customer service, uptime and package was perfect for my needs. Still, this time around my new forum will be hosting with KnownHost on a vps.
I've just read that too, over at hostjury...if that means anything? I lot of my friends are with them, and even good ole ADX here is with them. They must be doing good things. Why are you looking at VPS... are you running very busy sites? gogo
We pay ours when the bill is sent, as others have said, things can change with companies for example support could suddenly go down the drain and investing good money into one of them isnt a good plan even if it does work out cheaper at the time.
