Do you keep track of ideas to write about later?

(Sorry; thought of two thread ideas at once :p)

Does anyone else mark down ideas for things to write about that they don't have time at the moment to post? If so, where do you keep your list and how often do you go back to look at it?

I've been making a list of potential topics of discussion and keeping them online via Thoughtback, a site for posting taggable thoughts and getting them re-sent to you through push notifications (also, it was created right here in Lansing! :)). I currently have a growing list of 25 potential topics, which I'll begin posting gradually as time permits; I also have a few ideas for the site itself tagged, which will be implemented as I work on the upcoming revamp over Christmas break. The only negative thing I've found with Thoughtback is that you can't set suggested due dates or additional notes, so I may end up seeking out an alternative at some point.

I'm curious to know if I'm the only crazy one who does this, or if others keep lists as well. :p

Ooohhh I like the look of that site.

I don't make lists of potential discussion topics, but I do make lists of ideas for various things I'm writing and this could be really handy... does it have an iPhone app? :D

    **Edit

Why, yes there is an iPhone app.. awesome!

If I get an idea it either gets thought through and implemented there and then or it gets forgotten about pretty quickly. I'm the world's worst list maker but I must admit that idea behind that site has given me some pause for thought. Cheers ;)

I use a thread on admin section of my forum. I use to check it when I am free and write it down myself or get it done by others.

If I do ever run a forum again, I'll probably use evernote to remind myself.

I don't generally keep track of ideas, but there have been the very rare times when one popped into my head that was great to write about before going to bed, so started the thread adding the topic title in a Private Hidden forum to remind me what it was about when adding the content for it.

Very rare I do that though. But I will write a topic on my private forum first, check and edit it, then move it later onto a live public forum. I often do that because it means you can spread your time over a topic. Posting it live right away means you have to start and finish it in one go really.

Hm, that might be interesting to look at... I'm pretty regimented with a rather (probably) insane setup involving wikidpad databases mirrored across my systems (desktop, notebook, netbook) with Dropbox, but for briefer things this might have an interesting application now that I sucked it up and entered the real of smartphones...

lol, you read my mind! While I'm outside doing stuff, all kinds of crazy angles for neat topics always come to mind, it's like I see people, hear things, and I see "spin."

When I get home, they're all gone, puff of smoke

Good old pen and paper. I keep several notebooks around for various things I have to keep track of. I find writing them by hand helps me remember and think about what I'm putting down better. I type so fast that sometimes I get ahead of myself if I keep a log on the PC.

I'd probably totally pen and paper (and still occasionally do) if I could actually read my own handwriting three days after jotting something down. I almost feel sorry for the folks at my old company who have to try and decrypt ten years of spiral bound notebooks full of that stuff; it is an aid for memory for me to write things down, but I generally almost never look back at it again. Then again, considering how much scheduling/ planning I put in Outlook and Excel in those years -- and a habit of no deletions -- I'd like to think there's more than enough of a trail to follow anyway without them.

My penmanship was apparently known to be doomed when I was in kindergarten, alas. My teacher encourged my parents to get me a typewriter then. I got lucky and ended up with an 8088 instead. Over the years that evolved into my "true ideas tracker" -- the previously mentioned mirrored wikidpad databases -- but I wholly admit I have to go back and look at stuff I've typed whereas I just tend to know things I've written down.

I still twitch and look for spiral bound notebooks, though. As attached as I have been to typing all my life, there's still no substitute for the kinetics involved in staining a piece of paper with ink or graphite, I guess.

Pen and paper if its before I'm going to bed, and then onto Google Docs or something else cloud based.

Yes and when I usually get new idea, I get them while away from the computer. Luckily I use my Droid and a app for to-do list. Its always full :p I constantly get topic ideas for my various forums in real life situations so it comes in handy :)
