This is purely for my own personal reserch. Do you have your own VPS or Dedicated server?

I have a dedicated server purely for the fun factor, not because I need it. Well I don't need it yet anyway. I may need it once my website ramps up.

No, not yet, lol though for a while we almost wanted to get one just to purchase and see what it was like.

But when we calculated the numbers for a year and saw how expensive it was, we spoke to Mike at MDD Hosting, and he gave us, instead, a fantastic price for a semi-dedicated hoster for a year instead.

With the money we saved, we're now considering hiring coders or content producers to build out our sites, and if we ever need, we'll be ready to finally get our own vps or dedicated.

    :)

I used to have a managed VPS, once I get a real job :)P) I plan on getting an unmanaged one or even a semi-dedi server.

I have two dedicated servers for specific projects, and two root resellers from a friends company (For free :p) that I use for personal sites.

I also have two dedicated servers plus two VPS and a rather silly number of shared hosting packages for my low bandwidth sites.

Managed VPS here just so we have our own RAM and don't start bottlenecking on a shared server. I really like the ability to tweak mySQL specifically for a forum.

New forums start out on shared accounts until they grow enough to warrant their own environment.

And we actually need more processing power but holding off to see if we won't need it when we convert to xenForo.

True my dedicated server is managed but its my choice, I could have had a unmanged server for the same price. How ever I am the only person on the server and all of the resources are mine. :nerd: I don't ever have to worry about some one else on the server bogging it down. If my server gets bogged down, it is going to be because I did it.

My playbox is a dedicated unmanaged server. I'm fairly sure sometime I'll get an axe to the head by the significant other for asking too many questions on how to do things in the command line.

I would LOVE to have a Dedicated server for the fun of it but I just don't have the money for it :(. I mean I could setup one right at home but 1Mbps uplink doesn't cut it lol.

So, since I'm a control freak and want more resources then a shared environment can provide, but can't afford a dedicated server, I have an unmanaged VPS server, actually two lol.

They run Ubuntu because I'm an Ubuntu fan. One server runs Minecraft, the other one I put my sites on. I can't afford managed from my provider either and I don't care because I'm pretty confident of managing my own server.

You beat me to the derail, I was totally about to talk about how I love my dedicated server and how amazed I am at the small footprint minecraft/bukkit has on it and how that joy got absolutely ruined this weekend when the significant other opted to generate a new world and run a damnable Google Maps-powered mapping thing on it, making me cry and have to pull down my Terraria/TShock testbed because it was also making my xF testbed's admin panel run like a tortoise.

Lesson? The only thing more fun than an unmanaged dedicated server is having to share it with horrible terrible resource hogging mates.

We've been on a dedicated box for quite some time now. I refuse to go any other route now. Not only do I not trust other account holders, I prefer to do my own work on the box, especially when the hosting company starts making excuses as to why something can't be done. Screw that.

Nope and I hope I won't need it too soon. I don't have any intentions to paying hundreds of bucks/month for hosting as long as I can prevent this from happening.
