I get some bloggers every now and then who try to advertise on forum. I do delete the posts but somehow feel bad to ban them (though they may never come back, they get a message like " you are banned ") just because they tried to get attention which is quite natural who is a beginner in blogging. I have seen some of my admin friends use strong worded messages in " banned " email notification. Do you think that is necessary ? Or is there any unforeseen problems if we leave their ID unbanned ?
I'd set-up rules that disallowed advertising without permission from "the staff". See my rules here: http://www.cliquegaming.org/help/terms #6 is the one you're looking for. This way, you can get rid of the ones just wanting to spam their links, and keep the ones that will actually post relevant content.
Thanks. I think it is a general rule that anything that is not supposed to be helpful content to members or have conflilct of interest with the board will be considered spam. These bloggers are also spammers in a way but I prefer to remove the damage they made (it ends with delete of posts) than letting them by mail that you are banned or may be a strong worded one. Some of them deserve it but some others just want to share their pride in a childish way. The only concern I have in this is will there be any issues in future as their accounts remain active because some of them are professional spammers. PS : I prefer the way it is.
When I was running forums, I had no feelings about banning spammers, they spammed they were gone, simple as
Spammers should always be banned, why would you want to allow spammers access to your site? The only time I would allow spammers is if they are posting quality content in return and sadly, that is rare.
I do not have sympathies for professional spammers, but I am kind of reluctant to use the same harshness towards new bloggers who just tries to show their blog to the world.
