Hello, I've got some questions before I buy it: 1) What kind of updates are there after I got no update rights anymore? (still security updates or no kind of updates anymore) 2) Is it able to setup custom permissions for attachments now? (for example guests can see .jpgs now)
So far there hasn't even needed to be a security update, but I'm fairly sure security patches are released to lapsed customers. They currently don't differentiate attachments (There isn't a difference between a .jpg or a .exe for example).
Unfortunately as forsaken mentioned there still isn't a way to differentiate between file types. It's a feature i've personally been waiting for since I'd like to be able to display image formats to guests whilst still limit them from downloading actual files. Hopefully, with the resource manager about to go live on the company forums at the end of January (or thereabouts) there might be a demand to include this since resources warrant screenshots being displayed to all usergroups whilst still maintaining limited loading for other file types. So far, the way I've been getting around this is by using an image host for guests (you could use your own) so guests can view what's on offer. Trouble with that, since image hosts (free) are temperamental at times they have the tendency of removing images so I always have to post two screenshots one using image hosts and one using the attachment system. The resource manager needs this kind of flexibility so if it does get implemented into that I suspect they'll introduce it into the core product. That's an if though and I'm speculating that they may add this in.
Is the SEO of Xenforo really good or just a bit optimized? I do not buy an optimized software to buy later another 50$-100$ addon/plugin to make it more SEO (related to vBulletin and vBSeo).
It seems pretty optimised out of the box. We haven't added any 3rd party SEO software here and we appear to be doing okay
I'm not entirely certain what you mean there - obviously when buying anything second hand you need to be aware that there are people out there trying to scam others from their hard earned cash. Request a screenshot of proof of both licence and support ticket confirmation that they are able to sell the licence.
Speaking from a position of having used vBSEO, then converting to Invision, and now running XenForo, I can say XenForo is quite good.
On the SEO front there really isn't a need for an add-0n because the the XF developers have been trying to take advantage as much as possible of today's coding practices to make XF search engine friendly. Here are a couple of threads that you might be interested in... Semantic HTML: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/semantic-html.892/ HTML 5 Microdata: http://xenforo.com/community/threads/html-5-microdata-in-breadcrumb.12347/ Of course there are always disagreements about SEO best practices but at least for XF out of the box seems to be doing fine.
Is it able to create a new template? I do not need new graphics, I'm happy with the current ones but I need other colors. Or is it nearly necessary to buy a new template from a company? http://audentio.com/preview/xenforo/class As you can see there is a color choose-tool for the users. Is this an ordinary/simple to implant feature or only available via this template and not public?
You can change the colours yourself. Ahhh you edited your post. So my comment is referring to going into the admin control panel and changing the colours there!
I'm not sure but almost sure a frontend user colour selector add-on for users to change their colours have not yet been released. There's not one included in the core but as you linked to audentio they have this in their styles (Unsure if it's all of their styles). I know john from xenstyles.com has a frontend user colour selector in his framework which comes with all the styles they sell.
Is the customer support fine? What's their average response time and are they qualified to help everyone or are they lazy/unfriendly as like as the supporters of some other companies?
Brogan will usually answer you so fast, it's like he already did before you even posted your question. Usually the longest I've seen is an hour and that's not often.
What's about suggestions for new features? Do they accept them from no-name/fresh users or only from old community members?
Do you know if there are developer editions? That means I can download and test versions that aren't stable yet but got new features etc.
