Have you ever had to deal with a member posting under the influence? I've found most of the time drunk posters are harmless enough (maybe a little hard to understand because of typos) but occasionally they can get a bit out of hand and take things too far or react badly to things. How do you deal with this kind of situation -especially when, if sober, they wouldn't act the way the have done. Or have you ever been that member posting while drunk and reacted badly to something that, when sober, wouldn't have bothered you. How do you handle it once you've sobered up?
What we need is some type of add-on that will do some tests to check if the person behind the computer is drunk (some basic motor skills with the mouse and keyboard). If found to be drunk, the add-on will have some creative features to mess with them.
That'd be pretty funky. I'm sure Google has something like that on their gmail... I vaguely recall seeing some option.
Yep, I was right. If you go to settings in your gmail and select Labs. Scroll down and you'll see the following:-
I'm not so sure that would be very effective though. Even when I'm stupid-drunk, I'm still capable of pulling out my phone and working the calculator app
I suppose it depends just how drunk you are. If you're that drunk that you can't focus on the screen properly, chances are you won't be able to read the maths question correctly.
Theres a certain developer on XenForo who has a tendency to get smashed than post like a dumbass; god knows the times he's had to backpedal (But not apologize) or delete his drunken posting. I have a zero policy for drunken posting on my site; if you post like a tool when you're drunk, chances are you'll have any post you made deleted. If it continues, I will eventually just ban the person as the time wasted moderating their posts isn't worth it.
I don't drink so I've never been guilty of drunk posting. .... but I do have a habit of not going by clocks so I have been guilty of posting stuff around 3:00AM while half-asleep and having absolutely no memory of if later when I see replies coming.
This can be a very tricky area. I used to post after having a drink or two and caused unintended mayhem sometimes. I have since learned to quit posting after the bottle has been cracked, that is why I don't generally post here after 7pm (UK time) It's a very simple rule, have a drink, don't post on-line anywhere. I'm not sober now, but I have learned to avoid controversial subjects and to avoid the people I do not like. As an admin if I spotted someone posting stupid stuff because they were drunk I would change their password so they could not log in and post and PM the next day with a new password to save them any embarrasment.
