Alrighty, so in the announcement thread that explained we've moved, I said that we'd changed a few things, so here it is. Marketplace - you'll find a link to this in the navbar at the top of the site. Members who have made 30 posts and have been a member for 7 days will also be automatically receive access to this forum. If you don't want to wait then feel free to purchase a Supporting Memberspackage . This is due to the amount of people registering simply to throw one post in the sales forum and disappear, which left staff with concerns about their validity. We'll see how this goes for a while and revisit the decision later on. *Updated* Signatures - are available once a member has made 30 posts. *updated* Resources - Most downloads are still available for all members. The link is on the navbar. We are currently missing a couple but these should be back in the next few days. Articles - Available via the navbar. We are developing a new system for articles, so they will not be in forum format permanently. Hosting/Community Review - our custom mods are currently in progress and we should have these sections back online soon!
AWESOME move to the xenforo platform! As a forum owner myself, it's interesting to see AdEx embracing xenforo. Oh if I had a few extra hundred dollars lying around I'd upgrade my forums to xF too. And make no mistake - xenForo IS an upgrade! Nice work Lisa! J.
So in order for me to post in the market place I need to buy access. Am I correct? If so bad decision. Maybe add another group for people that frequent the site and contribute by posting.
Hey Bob... we may well do that, but we wanted to get the site back online as quick as possible, so worked things around the existing usergroups for the moment. Of course, for long term well-known members there is always room for manoeuvre
I saw Admin Extra before the change and I must say I'm a sucker for the new style, and the new platform
Yeah.. I didn't say no way, but I did say in the foreseeable it wouldn't... but it's a woman's perogative to to change her mind, right? Plus, with 1.1 a few more necessities were added to the software which made it more viable for use here
Have to honestly say I am not sure what people see in Xenforo - it seems very clunky and not having all the forums on the index page is weird. Sure there are some nice gimmicks - but they are little more than that. (okay one or two might be a good idea - but I am not giving in that easily ) I have used the majority of forum scripts over the 12 or 13 years that I have run forums, so am usually open to new projects, but I just cannot see the attraction. Sorry. The one advantage it does bring though is that it will keep other platforms on their toes. This can only be a good thing. Oh and if anyone is selling their IPB accounts, let me know - I might be interested
When we ran on vB, we did something similar with the forums - having some in a separate tab. It wasn't something we could achieve using IPB though. Forum software is all about personal taste. I have always struggled with the IPB interface - they have a great package, but it and I didn't click in a manner that worked for me. But as I've said elsewhere, I enjoy testing different software. We ran on IPB for over a year, now it's time to give xenForo a whirl We also can't please everyone, so just this once, I decided to please myself.
Benefit to Admin Extra? Other than it makes me happy? hehehe Seriously, though - there were a lot of pros and cons, but I felt Admin Extra needed something to kickstart it again and I've been spending a lot of time using xenForo of late and loving it. It just has a fresh happy feel to me and I wanted to share the love Glad my little email drew your attention our way again *hugs*
Sadly the other forum is blocked to non-payers, we cannot even reply to paying members to ask questions. I used to always suggest to people on the IPB forums to come here to sell licences etc., but cannot do that now. Hope you do reconsider that decision, as I feel people will just go elsewhere. I know that many came posted and went away, so perhaps make it so that people can post in there after say 10 posts. That would encourage people to post first. Would be a shame to see this place flounder.
As I explained earlier, it was a quick way of setting up so we could get back online. I am dealing with these things in order of priority As far as permissions, anyone can reply to threads posted.. it's only that threads cannot be posted any anyone other than supporting members right now. As for quoting my saying this isn't the thread for it.. well it's not lol.. you can easily do it via the conversations system And seeing the place flounder.. been there, done that
I'll double check the settings. It's next on my list anyway, most other quick stuff has been sorted.. just the long processes left now hehehe
