This tutorial will show you how to merge threads and posts.
Merging Threads
1. Firstly we need to select the threads we wish to merge. As with the Inline Moderation tutorial we tick the boxes next to the threads we want.
2. From the Moderation Drop Down box select "Merge Threads". We will then be presented with this screen
a) Looking at the options box we have "Thread 1 for Tutorial" selected. This means that all posts from "Thread 2 for Tutorial will be merged into "Thread 1 for Tutorial".
If we selected "Thread 2 for Tutorial" then all posts from "Thread 1 for Tutorial would be merged into "Thread 2 for Tutorial"
b) Now we select the forum which we want this newly merged "super" thread to be moved to in this case "Chit Chat" is chosen.
c) Now we look at the redirection box. We have three options here,
i) Leave No Redirect - We can leave no redirect to the new thread, which means there will be nothing to show that the threads have been merged.
ii) Leave a Permanent Redirect - The thread that was merged into the other, in this case "Thread 2 for Tutorial" will still be shown, however when the thread is clicked it will take us to the "Thread 1 for Tutorial" thread, as this is where all the posts have been moved to. There is no time limit to this redirection.
iii) Leave Expiring Re-Direct - This gives us the opportunity to set a time limit on the redirect before it disappears. Select the appropriate length from the drop down box.
3. Click on the Merge button.
We are presented with a password box to authenticate the request click on "OK" and the merge is completed.
