This works with ALL vBulletin versions......
Error 404 Page Not Found (Redirect To Thread) - Brought to you by ChopSuey - vBulletin Discussions Community

DEMO - http://www.vbdiscussions.com/this404...!lolitsawesome

Step one, in any forum of your choice - create a new thread and name it " 404 Page Not Found "
Make sure it is a closed and stickied thread.
The contents in the post put whatever you want. Here is mine for example:

“ Quote ”

I apologise. It's not easy being software. Although I do my best to get you the pages you want to see, the idiot that installed me seems to work tirelessly to undermine my efforts. And I have a few suggestions that might help you find what you're looking for.
While I would bet good money (if I had any - for some reason, though I work around the clock, nobody sees fit to pay me) that the fault lies at this end, it is probably worth quickly checking there are no typos in the address your browser is trying to access.
If not, it is also possible that you've followed a broken link, or a link to a page that no longer exists. If that is the case, please take a moment to email the owner of the link to tell him about the problem.
Lastly, I suggest using the search function here. Good luck!
By the time you return, this problem should be resolved. If not, please feel free to harass the person responsible by emailing chospuey@vbdiscussions.com.
Feel free to use my template and edit it to your liking.

Now after you have posted the thread copy the URL from your browser.
2. Open 404.txt OR edit 404.shtml with notepad or wordpad. change the thread link

Code

http://forum.vbdiscussions.com/showthread.php?t=104
to your 404 Page Not Found link
then change the contents between the <title> and </title> to "" Yoursitename - Yoursiteurl.com | Redirecting. Hit save after all has been completed.
3. Upload 404.shtml or 404.txt (whichever one you edited) to your site root. If you have /forum or /forums upload it to the folder too.
Any other folders within the public_html folder upload it to there also.

thanks mate looks cool

Edited because:

Hey guys/Gals thanks to ChopSuey and this script i have modified it to look better with your VBulletin 3.8.5

Probably will work with VB4.0.3 but you will have to re add the CSS for the Error Box...

Thanks to ChopSuey and VBulletin...

I just modified it.. Hope it helps put this in the main Folders like i have in my Public_Html as my forum is my site...

This Custom Makes it look more like your VBulletin Site.

Now now boys n girls..

I have a question.

Normally a 404 will show you the error and problem telling you what's wrong, surely if you re-direct you will never know the problem.

eg. Image not found / wrong directory
MySql errors

Yeah mostly on the main websites, if you own a forum it be a thread missing or been deleted which is why in the custom thread you say that the thread has either been removed or isnt there..

Your basicly doing a error page in a thread and re-directing people to it..

Thanks

I suppose the amount of people who may get 404's usually shrug backspace and continue without reporting.

I guess the creation of a thread/post will bring the attention to the admins more.
